Accompanied by the drumbeat of pounding hooves, the riding platoon of Connecticut's First Company Governor's Horse Guards performs mounted drills on its grounds in Avon every Thursday throughout the year.  In formations taken from the pages of early U.S. Cavalry manuals, the troopers and their mounts constitute a unique chapter of Connecticut history and an exciting link with the past.       More History

Our Mission:
The Company is part of the organized militia of the State of Connecticut. Its mission is to serve the State whenever called upon by the proper officials and in whatever capacity is demanded. This may include the control of riots and other disorders, traffic and crowd control, and civil defense. The Company also upholds traditional customs and displays the pageantry of the U.S. Cavalry by participating in various celebrations throughout Connecticut and occasionally in other states.

Supplementary purposes of the Company include the training of Connecticut youth in military and civilian life, fostering respect in Connecticut youth for national and State histories, assisting civil authorities, including town, city and State police, in emergencies, participating in services and contributing to national, State, and local charities, and promoting and encouraging good fellowship and comradeship among our members and their families.
